About Stephen

I am double board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. Holding active medical licenses in Illinois and Indiana, I am in full-time clinical and academic practice at a tertiary care teaching hospital and university medical center. In addition to being full-time clinical faculty as a comprehensive ophthalmologist, treating new consults and continuity patients with various kinds of eye disease ranging from mild to severe, I hold an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. I am Director of the Resident Wellness Program for the Department of Ophthalmology at Loyola University Medical Center & Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital. I am a clinical research preceptor for ophthalmology residents and medical students interested in ophthalmology. My most recent research manuscript publication appeared in the Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare (June 2020), a novel prospective study assessing the use of smartphone photographs for developing tele-ophthalmology patient encounters. I serve the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital Eye Clinic as Electronic Medical Record and Health Information Technology coordinator, a role that also ensures clinical documentation improvement and optimized coding and billing for clinical and surgical patient encounters. I have a background serving as a physician advisor, providing remote medical chart reviews, utilization reviews, and disability reviews. I work with medical students, medical residents, and practicing medical professionals to overcome test stress when preparing for high stakes exams. I am dependable, accessible, and easy to work with.
